Celebrating the millet culture of India, this unique rich khichdi is made using nutritious jowar or sorghum millet and ghee, garnished with caramelised onions.
Legend has it, that Draupadi fed the Pandavas Khichdi while they were in exile. The Moroccan traveller Ibn Batuta mentions “Kishri” as an Indian dish of Rice and Moong Dal in the 1350s. King Akbar as well as Aurangzeb were said have been very fond of Khichdi. The Nawab of Awadh consumed a more decadent form of Khichdi with pistachios and almonds.
